DDEC, joining the Mobility Cohort, is working to provide research, analysis, and develop recommendations for South Cape’s Parking Management Plan. This week, DDEC presented before the Committee of the Whole and hosted a public workshop to share preliminary findings and solicit feedback from the Committee of the Whole and Members of the Public.
The team is also working to assist the city of Cape Coral with developing an effective wayfinding system to improve the experience for all users in South Cape. An effective wayfinding system is key to successful placemaking in Cape Coral’s downtown, directing people to landmarks, parking, and amenities that showcase the area’s vibrant character.

Strategic navigational signs, maps, and markers make it easy for visitors to find public parking garages and surface lots, reducing circling and congestion. Clearly guiding motorists to downtown parking facilities ensures a welcoming arrival experience. Once parked, wayfinding helps visitors efficiently locate attractions, shops, restaurants, and parks on foot.

For downtown employees and residents, intuitive wayfinding guides them to daily parking options like permit zones and reserved garages. This facilitates access for downtown’s regular users.
Linking parking and destinations through a cohesive wayfinding strategy also strengthens downtown’s connectivity. Visitors can seamlessly progress from parking to attractions, while transparent signage provides assurances that their parking spot is easily retrievable later. This facilitates further exploration of the district on foot.
As downtown Cape Coral grows, clear wayfinding that bridges parking and pedestrians will be crucial. It will shape an accessible, walkable environment that showcases the area’s waterfront location, shopping, amenities, and unique local flavor. Wayfinding reflects the community and enhances the downtown experience for all users.
