On October 19th, 2024, DDEC joined the Village of Palm Springs for the annual Trunk or Treat event. It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and kick off the Vision Zero Action Plan. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., people came out, making it the perfect chance to gather feedback.
Uyen Dang and Orlando Toro represented DDEC and chatted with attendees, collecting survey responses from 103 folks. Their input really helped us understand how people in the Village get around and what safety issues matter most.
Survey Highlights:
- How Residents travel?
- 81.6% drive.
- 34% walk.
- Peak travel times were in the morning and late afternoon.
- What are the main concerns?
- Distracted driving (59%) and speeding (53%) were the top worries.
- People felt safest in cars and least safe on bikes.
- What needs work?
- More pedestrian facilities (46.6%) and traffic calming measures (41.8%) were the big asks.
These insights are a solid starting point for the Vision Zero plan. The community wants better options for walking and biking and a focus on distracted driving. DDEC is excited to work with the Village of Palm Springs to make the streets safer for everyone.
