Where Mobility Meets AI: What We Took Away from Tomorrow.City USA

Attending the Tomorrow.City USA conference in West Palm Beach felt different this year—it wasn’t just another national event, it was happening right here in our hometown. Walking into the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the conversations felt directly connected to the work happening in our own corridors, intersections, and communities.

We attended to stay close to where mobility, infrastructure, and technology are heading, and this year there was a noticeable shift. The presence of technology and AI companies was strong. Conversations moved beyond planning frameworks into real tools—AI-driven analytics, digital twins, and platforms that can evaluate safety, operations, and demand in real time. It was clear that cities are not just exploring these technologies—they’re starting to integrate them into day-to-day decision-making.

One of the highlights was sitting in on a panel focused on transportation and city design. A consistent theme was how AI is being used to support better, faster decisions—whether that’s identifying high-injury corridors, optimizing signal timing, or prioritizing capital improvements. The discussion reinforced what we’re seeing locally: a shift toward data-informed design, multimodal investment, and a more precise understanding of how streets are actually used.

At the same time, the fundamentals haven’t changed. Cities are still balancing safety, capacity, and funding constraints. What’s evolving is the toolkit. AI and technology are helping agencies test scenarios, justify investments, and communicate outcomes more clearly to stakeholders.

Being at Tomorrow.City USA Conference in our own city put everything into perspective. West Palm Beach isn’t just participating in the conversation—it’s helping host it. For us, it was an opportunity to connect these emerging tools back to our work and continue pushing practical, implementable solutions in the communities we serve.
