About the APA Florida Planning Conference
On September 17, 2025, DDEC had the honor of presenting at the American Planning Association (APA) Florida Planning Conference, held at the Ocean Center in Boynton Beach. This annual conference is one of the state’s premier gatherings for planning and design professionals, featuring hands-on workshops, mobile tours, and sessions that highlight innovative planning projects across Florida.
The Panel Discussion
Our Principle, Uyen Dang, P.E., joined a panel discussion titled “Planners or Engineers: Who Design Our Streets?” The session took place from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. and featured:
- Naama Blonder, Urban Designer at Smart Density
- Daniel Soloman, Urban Planner specializing in transportation at Gorove Slade.
- Uyen Dang, Traffic Engineer at DDEC
Together, they shared insights on the unique roles planners, designers, and engineers play in shaping the streets we use every day.

Collaboration Between Planners and Engineers
Urban planners bring long-term vision, community priorities, and land-use context. Engineers contribute technical expertise, safety standards, and operational considerations. Urban designers add creativity and a focus on human experience.
When these professions work together, the result is more than just functional roads, its complete streets that prioritize safety, mobility, and livability for all user: drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders.

DDEC’s Role in Shaping Streets
At DDEC, we believe that the most successful streets are the results of collaboration between planning engineering disciplines. Our work emphasizes implementing safety, mobility, and community character into every project.
For complete streets initiatives to Vision Zero action plans, our team is committed to creating roadways that not only move traffic but also connect people, support local economies, and enhance quality of life.
